We all know that Macca, by trade, is not a defensive midfielder. The criticism directed towards him in this context might be unjust, considering his natural inclinations and strengths lie in different areas of the pitch.

The debate certainly raises the pertinent question of whether Liverpool need to secure a natural number six to shore up their defensive midfield, allowing players like Mac Allister to flourish in positions where their skills remain better suited. There’s absolutely no doubt that the former Brighton man would put his best foot forward playing in a position where he’s a natural. A #10 that is.

His contributions in advanced roles on the field should not go overlooked. The Argentine’s flair and surely creativity make him a valuable asset in more advanced positions, where his attacking instincts can stand harnessed to greater effect.
