Liverpool’s young winger eyed by Championship clubs for a loan deal ahead of January

Kaide Gordon, the youngest player to have scored for Liverpool so far, has garnered the attention of fellow English clubs. According to Liverpool ECHO (h/t Team Talk), clubs such as Middlesbrough, Birmingham City and Ipswich Town are interested in borrowing the player on a loan from the Reds. The report added that Birmingham City’s manager Wayne Rooney wanted the attacking midfielder to play for Birmingham City.

Before his move to the Anfield side in 2021, Gordon had made a stellar debut as a substitute in Derby County’s 4-0 win against Birmingham City. Having been given the opportunity by Rooney, he has supposedly left a strong impression on his former coach.

The Merseyside boasts one of the strongest line-ups in the Premier League that is primarily known for their attack. With a demanding manager like Jurgen Klopp, it is not uncommon for young players to venture out to other clubs on loan to prove their mettle and gainfully receive Premier League exposure.

After making four senior appearances in the 2021/22 season, the English player’s career faced several setbacks in the last year and a half due to growth-related injuries. However, Gordon was still included in the roster for Liverpool’s group stages of this season’s Europa League. It wouldn’t be too far-fetched to infer that Klopp believed that the 19-year-old had enough potential to play a bigger role in the future.

Liverpool’s young winger to be loaned out for more Premier League experience

The Reds winger could use a change of coaching style as he’s closing in on a comeback by undergoing training in full swing. He would have to level up his game during his time out of Liverpool to prove his worth to Klopp. After being benched out for most of the season, it is unlikely that Gordon would be allowed to continue in the Anfield side after his comeback.

The youngster’s potential on the field is pretty much a mystery at this point. Understandably, Klopp would most probably loan him out to gain minutes and assess him appropriately. However, the midfielder is returning after over 16 months of inaction.

Klopp has propelled the Reds to the leading ranks of the Premier League table this season via his ruthless disposal of the old guard and addition of new players. His demanding methods of coaching have helped his team play out of a rough start to the season. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising if he sends his dormant right winger to get better at his game. It remains to be seen where Klopp sees Gordon fit.
