Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher downplay the chances of Liverpool beating Arsenal at Anfield

Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher believe Liverpool cannot win the game against Arsenal at Anfield. Liverpool faces the league-leaders Arsenal at Anfield in the Premier League top-of-the-table clash with just one point separating them.

Arsenal registered their last Anfield victory over Liverpool in the 2011-12 season when Robin van Persie scored a late goal. Last season, the Gunners took a two-goal lead in the first half against the struggling Reds. However, Liverpool returned to level the scoreline 2-2 in a game that many believe, caused Arsenal to lose the title.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp successfully revamped the midfield during the summer which contributed to their steep return to the top. Many expected Liverpool to return to the Premier League title conversation gradually while challenging for the top four this season.

Klopp’s men are currently challenging for trophies in every competition, taking each game at a time. Nevertheless, pundits like Roy Keane, Carragher and Neville have downplayed Liverpool whenever they got a chance.

Speaking on Stick to Football, Carragher predicted a draw between the Reds and the Gunners while praising the home record. He said:

“Liverpool’s home record is unbelievable, I don’t think Liverpool will lose at Anfield. I think it will be 1-1.”

On the other hand, Neville completely shunned the idea of Liverpool getting anything out of the game. He said:

“I don’t think Liverpool will win. I think Arsenal will win. But Liverpool are just mad, aren’t they? They’re a freak. I’m going 2-0 Arsenal.”

The episode involved Ian Wright and Keane giving their prediction for the game with both going for a 1-2 away win. Wright is a former Arsenal player and a well-known Arsenal fan but remains a widely-respected football pundit.

We think it’s too early to talk about the title race as the threat of Manchester City looms no matter what. The Reds need to prioritize taking each game as it comes instead of allowing themselves to become bothered about the title race. However, December results will play a crucial role during January as Klopp has a chance to bolster their chance. We hope that Neville and Carragher‘s comment boost the desire of players to prove them wrong but we doubt the
