Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher endorsed Liverpool star Darwin Nunez after his electric cameo against Arsenal in 1-1 draw
Former Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher demanded that Liverpool star Darwin Nunez start for the team after his fantastic cameo. Nunez came on as a substitute in the second half against Arsenal during the 1-1 draw at Anfield on Saturday.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp dropped Nunez in favour of Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo for the match against Arsenal. The 24-year-old came on as a substitute in the 68th minute, replacing Diaz on the left flank.
The Uruguay international dazzled the crowd with his explosive pace and dribbling abilities from the left flank. Liverpool came close to taking the lead against the Gunners after improving their overall performance in the second half.
However, the visitors managed to hold on for a draw, leaving the home crowd frustrated despite Nunez’s terrific cameo. The game involved some controversial decisions from the referee which is becoming an often-unfortunate theme for the Reds.
Carragher used his social account on X to convey his desire to see Nunez more often in the starting eleven. He said:
“I don’t care how many chances Nunez misses, he has to play in this team! #LIVARS [Hashtag for Liverpool vs Arsenal]”
Nunez has received criticism for wasting too many goal-scoring opportunities due to a lack of composure in front of goal. However, the Uruguayan international has been fantastic for his national team, scoring against Argentina and Brazil this year.
Furthermore, the 24-year-old delivers all-around contribution with his pace, work ethic and ability to create opportunities for his teammates. Klopp shifted Nunez to the left flank against West Ham in the Reds’ 5-1 Carabao Cup victory.

The 24-year-old produced a strong performance from the left-wing position while earning an assist against the Hammers, showcasing his versatility. Liverpool’s first-choice left winger Diaz has struggled with form since returning from last season’s injury.
