Peter Schmeichel compares Jurgen Klopp to legendary Manchester United figure

Peter Schmeichel compares Jurgen Klopp to Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester United’s legendary former captain Peter Schmeichel recently recalled his time under revered former coach Alex Ferguson and compared him to Jurgen Klopp.

In a formal discourse conducted by Premier League Productions, Schmeichel spoke about how the mind games that Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp employed on his players reminded him of his former coach. The German coach’s system for the Reds has helped motivate the team to hover around the top ranks of the Premier League table this season.

Post the Merseyside outfit’s 5-1 win over West Ham last Thursday, Klopp had criticized the crowd at the Red’s home ground to the reporters present. The German was not happy with the dour atmosphere in the stands and asked the fans to pass on their tickets to those who genuinely wanted to cheer for the team.

The partial disinterest that emanated from the audience could’ve been incited by the dull show put on by the Reds a few days before the game against West Ham. The Anfield giants dragged out an anti-climactic draw against Manchester United only four days before the West Ham win.

Klopp’s words indirectly emphasize the fact that the fans are the main factor for the sport being played, whilst also serving as motivation for the team’s members to be mindful of who they’re playing for. Here is what Peter Schmeichel had to say, as quoted by the Metro.

“He’s come out and he’s made it really important, not to the fans that they have to take part, but to the players, he’s made them understand who they’re playing for. They’re playing for the fans. The fans were not happy, even with five [goals]. It brings memories back of when I played for Ferguson. What’s important here? Who are we doing this for? Is it for us? Is it for our bank accounts? Is it for the house or the next car? No, we’re playing for the fans,” said Schmeichel to Premier League Productions.

Jurgen Klopp’s system reminds the legendary goalkeeper of his former manager Alex Ferguson

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp levels up his strategy

The Danish pro spent eight years serving as a fantastic goalkeeper under Man Utd’s Scottish coach Alex Ferguson. During his tenure of 27 years for the Red Devils, Ferguson brought about consistency with his mind games. He inspired his men to play for the glory of their fans and sportsmanship rather than for the glory of the individual.

In most of the games he supervised for the club, the Scotsman played a classic 4-4-2 style. The former manager made the Red Devils systematically strengthen their attack. They operated with two fast players defending the right and left side, two strong central midfielders and an able forward behind the centre forward.

Klopp’s methods for Liverpool this season have focused on improving his team’s attack, for which the men at the Anfield side are primarily known, and strengthening the defence. He revamped the team’s entire midfield and attack to ensure their success this season, despite key players such as Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara being benched out due to injuries.
