Liverpool face stiff competition for 22-year-old rival winger

Liverpool eye Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise in the winter transfer window

Liverpool are interested in securing Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise

, one of the Premier League’s most promising young wingers. This interest follows his standout performance in Crystal Palace’s 3-1 victory over Brentford on December 30, where Olise scored twice, catching the eye of both Liverpool and rivals Manchester City and Chelsea.

After overcoming an early-season hamstring injury, the English winger has demonstrated his attacking prowess, scoring five goals in nine appearances for Crystal Palace. Football Insider

(h/t Liverpool Echo), reports that the Reds, along with City and Chelsea, are keenly observing Olise for a potential move in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Last summer, Chelsea attempted to sign Olise, but he opted to extend his contract with Crystal Palace until 2027 (Transfermarkt). Given this commitment, Roy Hodgson’s team is understandably reluctant to sell during the current window, suggesting a substantial fee if he were to move.

Liverpool faces competition from their rivals in the bid to secure Crystal Palace midfielder

Liverpool face attacking challenges with Mohamed Salah’s departure to the Africa Cup of Nations and potential transfer interest from the Saudi Pro League. Additionally, an injury to Dominik Szoboszlai has further weakened their forward line.

Despite the contributions of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, Liverpool’s attack could benefit from Olise’s inclusion. The 22-year-old, primarily a right-winger, could serve as an effective stand-in for Salah. While matching Salah’s impact may be challenging, Olise’s addition could significantly bolster Liverpool’s offensive setup.

Initially, Olise might have to share his game time with Salah. However, if the young winger can learn the trade from the Egyptian king and improve his game, we might have our natural successor lined up and ready to go, whenever Salah leaves. Let’s wait and see how it progresses.
