Liverpool midfielder wins Premier League goal of the month

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister wins Premier League’s Goal of the Month award for December

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister received the Premier League’s Goal of the Month award for December. Mac Allister scored a cracking 27-yard goal against Fulham in the dramatic 4-3 victory at Anfield in December.

The award included eight contenders including Liverpool defensive midfielder Wataru Endo’s equalizing goal from the same game. The game involved two more stunning strikes from the Reds vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, making Mac Allister’s goal even more special.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a great start to his Liverpool career despite playing as a make-shift defensive midfielder. The Reds are currently at the top of the Premier League table and have progressed in every cup competition.

The 25-year-old took on the number six position, allowing Endo to adapt to the pace of the Premier League. Mac Allister has shown impressive versatility in the defensive midfield position, keeping the spaces between midfield and defence secure. Furthermore, his ability in possession and dictating the tempo has received praise from the football pundits and the Kopites.

Mac Allister shared his joy for scoring his first goal at the club after collecting the award (h/t Liverpoolfc.com). He said:

“I’m very happy because there were so many nice goals during this month. But thank you to the fans and everyone that voted for this goal to be Goal of the Month. [It’s] not a bad one to be the first [goal] at the club! Definitely one of the nicest goals I’ve scored in my career so far. It’s a nice one. I think on the pitch I didn’t realise how good it was. Then when I saw the replay, I could see how good it was. Very happy and hopefully many more to come.”

The Argentine has just started his Liverpool tenure and he would get more opportunity to play in his preferred role. However, due to injury to Trent and Endo currently fulfilling his international duties, he would continue as a number six.

The Kopites have enjoyed watching Mac Allister dominate the midfield in the deeper role and expect him to stay consistent. Liverpool are currently enjoying a short winter break as they face Bournemouth next in the Premier League.
