Fulham boss Marco Silva says they will ‘go for it’ in the second leg of Carabao Cup semis against Liverpool
Fulham manager Marco Silva remains undeterred despite a 2-1 defeat in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool. Willian opened the scoring for Fulham at Anfield, but goals from Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo turned the tide in Liverpool’s favour.
Silva acknowledged the challenge posed by Liverpool’s quality but expressed confidence in his team’s ability to bounce back in the second leg at Craven Cottage. Despite trailing in the tie, Silva emphasized Fulham’s commitment and suggested that the Whites still have a fighting chance of reaching Wembley. Here is what he said via West London Sport:
“The tie is still tight. We’ve lost the first half, so we’re going to have to go for it in the second at Craven Cottage.”
“We have something to play for, clearly. We know what Liverpool are capable of with their quality, but the belief that we had before tonight’s game and the trust we had in ourselves to fight for it doesn’t change now the game is done.”
Silva’s acknowledgement that the tie is “still tight” reflects the competitive nature of the encounter. Liverpool, however, will approach the second leg with confidence, having demonstrated resilience and attacking prowess in the first leg.
The Reds, now in control with a lead to defend, will stand tall against any challenge Fulham presents. The first-leg comeback showcased Liverpool’s ability to respond to adversity, a quality that has defined their performances throughout the season.
Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo’s goals not only secured the victory but also highlighted the team’s attacking depth and versatility. As Liverpool head to Craven Cottage with the lead, they have it in them to overcome any sort of pressure and secure a place in the Wembley final.
Jurgen Klopp’s tactical acumen and the depth of Liverpool’s squad will be pivotal in navigating the second leg. The manager’s decision-making, evident in impactful substitutions and tactical adjustments, has been instrumental in the team’s success. Hopefully, that trend will continue for as long as possible.
