Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister praises the club’s Academy youngsters for stepping up in the absence of important senior players

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister hailed the Academy youngsters for stepping up during the absence of important senior team players. Conor Bradley and Bobby Clark played a cameo during the 0-2 FA Cup win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The Reds are currently at the top of the Premier League table despite facing an injury crisis and absent players. They have also successfully progressed in every cup competition to challenge for each title.

Liverpool have lost both specialists left-backs Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas to long-term injury. Furthermore, they lost Joel Matip to a season-ending injury on 3rd December’s 4-3 Premier League victory over Fulham. Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo have departed for international duties as AFCON and Asian Cup commenced in January. Liverpool suffered another big injury with Trent Alexander-Arnold sidelined for a few weeks.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has earned a reputation for giving chances to youngsters despite massive ambitions and pressure of winning. However, the youngsters have proven that age is just a number, and they can sustain the pressure situation.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Mac Allister praised the youngsters who stepped up for the Reds this season. He said:

“You can see in the [Arsenal] game – Conor [Bradley], Bobby [Clark] – players from the Academy are doing very well and that helped the team to grow every single day in training and in the games. We are missing players – like [Wataru] Endo, Mo [Salah], Robbo [Andy Robertson], Thiago [Alcantara], some important players – but the team is always there and the young players prove that they are ready, so that’s what we need. In football you need a big group, a group of big players – and everyone is showing that. That’s why we all think that we can achieve some big things. But as I say, we have to go step by step.”

Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah has secured a place in the senior squad this season, showing his immense talent and maturity. Bradley has shown the quality that Klopp demands from his fullbacks, and he just needs to show it consistently.
