Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in signing PL proven defender impressing at the AFCON

Liverpool keeping tabs on Wolves star Rayan Ait-Nouri

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Algerian defender Rayan Ait-Nouri has garnered the attention of Premier League’s table-topping Liverpool. The full-back’s contract with the Midlands club runs until 2026 if he does not opt for an extension with them. However, according to FootballTransfers.com, the left-back’s time under Gary O’Neil is close to an end.

Arsenal and the Reds are vying to secure the player in the spring transfer window. It is unclear that the Wolves are hesitant to part with their star defender as a £50 million bid from Mikel Arteta’s side for the footballer was rejected recently, with the former demanding for more to sell the player.

Amidst the rejection, official talks on Ait-Nouri’s potential transfer to Anfield are also underway. Should Jurgen Klopp’s side put forth a bid higher than £50 million, then Liverpool should be able to secure the player in January.

However, a spring move looks unlikely for the 22-year-old, as the former French youth national had chosen to represent Algeria last year in the race for the Africa Cup of Nations. As the defender remains occupied with the Algerian national team, he might be unavailable to make a mid-season switch. More so, with Andy Robertson back in training, the Reds could hold off on a new left-back until the summer.

Rayan Ait-Nouri’s flexibility as a player could fit well with Liverpool’s style

Ait Nouri is an all-rounder is who proven to be adept in opposing the rival players and beating them as well as ensuring they do not get past them. Should he join the world-class defense line up with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold at Klopp’s side, the Algerian pro’s potential on the left-flank could open new avenues.

In a period of six months, Ait-Nouri has become one of Wolverhampton’s most important players and the latter would definitely suffer a blow in the wake of his potential departure. Liverpool, on the other hand, has ample options for its ever-changing midfield and attack. It is this exact trait of Jurgen Klopp’s, the calculative addition and disposal of players, that has played a pivotal role is propelling them to the top of the standings.
