Liverpool FC want to hire a new sporting director before picking a new manager

As has been the scenario throughout most of outgoing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s time at the club, the role of a Sporting Director has been very central to the club’s functioning and football-related operations that include player transfers, contracts, working alongside the Head Coach and the CEO and more things along those lines.

Michael Edwards initially and Julian Ward after the former’s departure saw themselves closely involved with Jurgen Klopp regarding contracts and player signings. Following Julian Ward’s exit, the Reds hired Jorg Schmadtke on a short-term basis for six months initially starting in June. Following Klopp’s decision to leave the club at the end of the season, the club made an official announcement on Schmadtke stating that the former Wolfsburg Sporting Director shall also leave his role at the end of the January transfer window.

There has been no news on who shall take over from Schmadtke for the rest of Klopp‘s tenure. According to The Telegraph, Liverpool are likely to hire a Sporting Director before scouting a successor for the outgoing manager.

By securing a sporting director first, Liverpool aim to fortify the football operations structure, ensuring a seamless integration between the director’s vision and the playing philosophy that will be instituted by Klopp’s eventual successor.

Challenging times ahead!

The departure of a managerial icon like Klopp inevitably stirs emotions among the Liverpool faithful. Analogies drawn between Klopp’s exit and the departure of legendary figure Bill Shankly underscore the profound impact Klopp has had on the club’s identity and success. As the club navigates this period of change, there is a dual focus – acknowledging and celebrating each remaining game under Klopp’s stewardship while strategically planning for the future.
