Incredible stat shows that Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah has been a creative force for the Reds this season
Football stat-based site Whoscored revealed that Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been a creative force for the club this season. Salah has played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s successful first half of the season, contributing with both goals and assists.
The Reds lead the Premier League table, closely pursued by Arsenal and Manchester City. Furthermore, they play Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final while successfully progressing in the FA Cup and the Europa League.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revamped Liverpool’s squad during the summer with many aged long-serving players departing the club. The new squad is diverse and contains players with different profile that allows him to use different tactics.
The 56-year-old has deployed Salah at his favourable right wing, but the Egyptian is working under a different tactical role. The 31-year-old has played wider when the team has possession in the middle or defensive third. Instead of cutting inside earlier and playing narrower, he drops narrow only in the attacking phases of the game.
The Egypt captain has also relied more on link-up plays and technical aspects instead of relying on dribbling and pace. He has adapted brilliantly to his new style of play, continuing the prolific goalscoring form despite the changes.
Salah has scored 18 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions this season from 27 appearances so far. On 1st January, the 31-year-old left Liverpool to fulfil his international duties with Egypt during the AFCON tournament.

Nevertheless, he is still joint-top in the Premier League leading goal scorer list with Erling Haaland with 14 goals. Whoscored (h/t X) reported that despite not playing in the Premier League since 1st January, Salah still has created more big chances (17) than any other player in the top five leagues in Europe this season.
