Harvey Elliott convinced that Liverpool teammate sets ‘an example’ for youngsters to follow

Liverpool star Harvey Elliott heaped praise on “role model” Mohamed Salah for his influence on the team’s youngsters

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott lauded the influence of legendary forward Mohamed Salah on himself and other youngsters. Salah suffered a hamstring injury during the AFCON tournament while playing for Egypt and he is currently recovering from it.

Liverpool revamped their squad during the summer and the Egypt captain played under new tactical instructions. Salah has relied more on his technique, creativity and link-up than just using his pace and dribbling ability.

Nevertheless, the 31-year-old has continued his prolific form in front of goal and added more assists to his game. His impressive ability to adapt has helped Jurgen Klopp deploy various tactics, playing a pivotal role in the club’s success.

Salah has scored 18 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions this season from the 27 appearances so far. The Reds anticipate the Egypt captain’s return in mid-February, which would significantly boost their prospects.

Speaking to the official LFC matchday programme (h/t Liverpoolfc.com), Elliott lauded the example Salah sets for him and other youngsters. He said:

“I think to the very day I retire I’ll always be learning different things from different players and Mo is a great example of that. Especially because we kind of played the same position when I first joined the club. I signed as a right winger, [but] knowing that it would take a miracle to take his spot! I had to adapt my game but there were things I could take from that position into the midfield where I play now: goalscoring threat, creativity and stuff like that. With Mo, he’s always trying not only to push myself but the other youngsters as well and, in all fairness, he doesn’t really need to do it.”

Elliott has played an important role in the Reds’ squad despite his young age, playing in numerous positions. He has played as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder and the right winger for Liverpool this season.

The 20-year-old has made 31 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, contributing with one goal and two assists. He has received praise for his tenacity, work rate, ability to make an impact as a substitute and creativity.
