Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp expressed his happiness over the performance of Andy Robertson in his first start since injury against Burnley. Robertson suffered a shoulder injury during the October international break while playing for Scotland in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
The Scotland captain started his first Premier League game against Burnley on Saturday since returning from injury. The Reds won the game 3-1 to retain the top spot in the Premier League table as the pressure builds.
Manchester City have a game in hand, and they are currently just two points behind Liverpool in the point tally. Robertson’s return is a massive boost for the Liverpool squad which is suffering from an injury crisis.
The 29-year-old has been a regular figure in the Reds’ starting eleven since joining the club from Wolves in 2017. He has barely missed many games during his tenure at the club, performing consistently with energy and drive.
Robertson missed 21 games this season due to the injury, the most amount of time he spent on the sideline. The Scotsman has made only 12 appearances in all competitions this season, contributing with a goal.
Speaking at the post-match press conference (h/t Liverpoolfc.com), Klopp conveyed his happiness to see Robertson back in action. He said:
“Yeah it is, absolutely – all of them but Robbo now especially as since we worked together he was never that long out, so for him it was very strange. Yeah, super-important, he played a top game.”
Over the years, Robertson has been one of the pivotal creative forces for the club, stacking numerous assists. Furthermore, the Scotland captain is very reliable defensively and his work rate is second to none.
The 29-year-old’s return comes at a crucial time when the Reds need to build a winning run of form. The Premier League competition has no room for complacency or excuses despite the injury crisis. Furthermore, Liverpool are competing for every trophy and as one of the leaders in the squad, Robertson
