Liverpool star Andy Robertson praises Joe Gomez for being consistent despite fulfilling several roles

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson emphasises the importance of Joe Gomez as he maintained consistency despite playing in different positions. The Reds have faced a challenging season but maintained a high level of consistency with Gomez playing a pivotal role.

Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League table but have no room for comfort. Arsenal and Manchester City are right behind them with Man City having a game in hand.

During this season, Liverpool have maintained a high ambition of challenging each trophy they can compete for. They have successfully progressed in the FA Cup and the Europa League while the Carabao Cup final awaits.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Robertson highlighted the importance of Gomez in the squad while pointing out his versatility. He said:

“Everyone sees Joey’s quality and the flexibility of positions that he can play. He can play anywhere across the back line. He does well in every position he’s played this season, which is so important to have a player like that. Even when he steps into the midfield and things, he looks comfortable. Everyone is just buzzing that he’s doing so well.”

The Reds suffered an injury crisis in the defence during the congested December fixture period, forcing several changes. They lost both Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas to injury while already losing Joel Matip to a season-long injury.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp deployed Gomez in the left-back position to compensate for all the losses. The 26-year-old delivered consistent performances at the left-back spot without any discomfort at the position, showcasing his impressive versatility.

The 26-year-old has played as a centre-back, a right-back and a left-back so far this season, without dropping his form. Meanwhile, he has shown more urgency in attack while looking to score his first goal at the senior level.

Gomez has earned a reputation for his formidable defensive contributions but this season he has also shown his attacking prowess. The England international has three assists from 32 appearances in all competitions this season.

Gomez has a big role to play in the latter stages of the season despite the return of Robertson. The 26-year-old’s form and the return of several key players from injury is a kind of selection headache that Klopp would gladly invite.
