Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold tops the all-time assists chart for a defender in the Premier League
Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has the most Premier League assists by a defender at just 25 years of age. Trent provided an assist to Diogo Jota in the 3-1 Premier League win over Burnley on Saturday.
Liverpool retains the top spot in the Premier League with the victory, but Manchester City have a game in hand. Trent has played a pivotal role in the Reds’ successful first half of the season, playing as an inverted fullback.
Furthermore, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has deployed Trent as a number-six whenever he could, allowing him to dictate the game. The 25-year-old’s impressive playmaking skills have evolved as he matured with experience and responsibilities as a vice-captain of the team.
Premier League’s official X account reported that Trent has the most assists for a defender in the Premier League history. The England international has 57 assists, one more than his fellow teammate Andrew Robertson who has 58 assists.
The two fullbacks have played a crucial role in the Reds’ success under Klopp’s reign at the club. The duo helped Liverpool win numerous trophies and continues to be a creative force for the revamped squad this season.
Trent has made 29 appearances in all competitions this season, contributing with two goals and 10 assists so far. The 25-year-old has preferred playing in a more central role with speculation of him making the transition to midfield soon.

Nevertheless, the Englishman is the most experienced natural right-back with Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley as his deputy. Against Burnley, Klopp took Trent off for Harvey Elliott during halftime while putting Curtis Jones as a make-shift right-back.

Liverpool have many players missing due to illness, injuries and personal reasons, including Gomez and Bradley. Klopp took Trent out as a precaution after he felt something on his left knee. Trent missed many fixtures in January due to the injury on the same left knee and therefore the concern is worrying for both fans and the Reds staff.
