Liverpool academy graduate explains why “success” means more to them than Manchester City

Trent Alexander-Arnold compared the difference in resources between Manchester City and Liverpool while expressing why the club’s success “means more”

Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold believed the success that Liverpool have enjoyed means more compared to Manchester City’s dominant success. Trent highlighted the difference in resources that the clubs have enjoyed while accomplishing all the accomplishments in recent years.

The Reds are currently at the top of the Premier League table with City one point behind them. Furthermore, Arsenal are also in the mix with just two points difference from Liverpool in the third place.

On Sunday, Liverpool will face the Citizens at Anfield in the Premier League clash that could shape the title race. The Reds have suffered from a severe injury crisis since January but managed to continue their strong run of form.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp continuously challenged the dominant Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City despite the difference in their resources.

Jurgen Klopp has wisely used the Liverpool academy to rotate the squad amid the congested fixture period. However, the injury crisis is taking a toll and threatening all the hard work they have done this season.

Trent, Ryan Gravenberch, Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones have played a crucial role but currently are the long-term absentees. As things stand, Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic are out for the rest of the season.

Prolific forward Mohamed Salah is still under observation as he recovers from the muscular injury. Furthermore, Darwin Nunez, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo returned in the Premier League game against Nottingham Forest. Klopp has to use game management to make sure these players don’t reinjure themselves, creating more problems for the club’s aspirations.

Speaking to Four Four Two (h/t Liverpool Echo), Trent expressed that every trophy means much more to Liverpool than to City. He said:

“It’s difficult. You’re up against a machine that’s built to win -that’s the simplest way to describe City and their organization. Looking back on this era, although they’ve won more titles than us and have probably been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase because of the situations at both clubs, financially. How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we’ve done it, probably means more to our fans.”

Trent makes a strong point as the Citizens have used astronomical levels of financial resources to become a dominating force. Man City are facing 115 financial breach charges in over a decade, tainting all the trophies that they have achieved.
