Egypt FA ignore Liverpool request to rest Mohamed Salah

The ongoing conflict between Liverpool and the Egyptian Football Association regarding the Reds’ fitness concerns over Mohamed Salah has reached a boiling point, with tensions escalating over the past few weeks. Since sustaining a hamstring injury at the Africa Cup of Nations, Salah’s game time has seen itself carefully managed by Liverpool, making just one appearance. Unfortunately, it was in that appearance off the bench against Brentford that Salah again felt discomfort ruling him out for a greater period of time.

Liverpool’s cautious approach is understandable, given Salah’s importance to the team and the need to prioritise his long-term fitness. However, the EFA’s insistence on assessing Salah’s fitness for their upcoming fixtures, including a friendly tournament in the UAE, has only added fuel to the fire. That is as per The Mirror.

These fixtures are merely friendly matches, with no real significance in terms of competitive football. Risking the health and well-being of a player of Salah’s calibre in such circumstances seems unnecessary and unwarranted. The priority should be on ensuring Salah’s full recovery and readiness for Liverpool’s crucial upcoming fixtures, rather than subjecting him to potential injury in inconsequential matches.

Why so adamant, EFA?

The EFA’s refusal to heed Liverpool’s concerns and their insistence on evaluating Salah’s fitness independently highlights the discord between the two parties. This situation is further complicated by reports of Salah feeling alienated by the EFA, which only serves to exacerbate the existing tensions.

In addition, it’s worth considering the motivations behind the EFA’s actions. There remains speculation that certain individuals within the organization may harbour jealousy or resentment towards Mohamed Salah due to his status as a global superstar. However, allowing personal grievances to influence decisions regarding a player’s fitness is both unprofessional and bloody irresponsible.

Ultimately, the well-being of Mohamed Salah should be the top priority for all parties involved. Liverpool’s reluctance to risk further injury to their star player is understandable, and the EFA should respect their decision.

At the end of the day, Liverpool will have greater rights over the player considering we pay his wages. The EFA has always caused Liverpool plenty of trouble in the past, and Salah’s entourage should also intervene and discuss matters.
