Crystal Palace seek replacement for their top defender Marc Guehi amid interest from Liverpool and Manchester United

Liverpool and Manchester United are ready to battle for Marc Guehi as Crystal Palace are searching for a suitable replacement. Guehi joined Palace from Chelsea in the summer of 2021 and established himself as one of the vital players.

The 23-year-old broke into England’s international squad with his performances at the club level, building a strong reputation for himself. Standing at 1.82 metres, he is a formidable presence in the Palace’s backline with physique and athleticism to bully opponents.

The England international is comfortable on and off the ball and capable of adapting to different tactical approaches. He has thrived in Palace’s system focuses more on a defensive approach as well as in England’s high line system.

The 23-year-old is a modern-day defender with the ability to distribute passes from the backline, comfortable around high-pressing opposition. Guehi has shown his mental strength and leadership qualities, commanding the defence to stay organized and focused on the task.

Telegraph reported that Crystal Palace are seeking a replacement for Marc Guehi amid interest from Man United and Liverpool. Big clubs consider the Englishman’s rating of £50m a reasonable price in a highly inflated transfer market. Furthermore, United’s involvement in the transfer deal could raise the player’s price tag even further as clubs usually grab high prices from them.

Meanwhile, the Reds are well-known for making shrewd negotiations and signing players for a justified price tag. Liverpool have only signed players for a high value when the profile they seek becomes a necessity at the club.

The Reds currently have captain Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah in their senior team squad. Joel Matip is currently out with a season-long injury and his contract expires at the end of the current season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp announced that he is stepping back from the managerial role at the end of the season. Once Liverpool confirms a sporting director and Klopp’s successor, they will likely proceed with the transfer deals. Nevertheless, Guehi fits the profile that the Reds seek in a defender and he is English which fulfils the homegrown quota.
