Liverpool took on Man City in a 1-1 draw tonight. A lot of people were looking forward to this game as it was expected that this would give one team some headway in the race for the Premier League title.
The game had a lot to offer, there were a ton of chances created. However, it was a penalty scored by Mac Allister and a corner goal by John Stones which made all the difference.
While he did concede once, there wasn’t a lot that the keeper could’ve done to keep John Stone’s shot out. Rose to the occasion and saved Liverpool when Phil Foden broke clear.
Virgil van Dijk was solid throughout the game. He made a crucial tackle to stop Julian Alvarez and was constantly leading his team from the back. Played a few balls into the final third that allowed the Reds to get into a threatening position.
A solid performance by the 21-year-old. Quansah often looked out of sorts at times, however, the English defender was constantly putting in work and covered a lot of ground for his team.
Until he was moved to the right wing, Gomez did well along with Mac Allister to contain City’s, Phil Foden. However, moving him to the opposite wing in the middle of the game affected his performance.
Conor Bradley’s performance wasn’t anything to write home about, but he did enough to be serviceable. The 20-year-old struggled to do anything meaningful on offence, but he was always present on defence and did enough to prevent a breakdown.
Was subbed off in the 60th minute. Szobsolai did well to get on the end of a cross released by Harvey Elliot. However, he failed to capitalise and couldn’t impact the game as much as he would’ve wanted to.
Endo was constantly distributing the ball past the Chelsea defence to help the Liverpool offensive line. He controlled the midfield well and completed over 90% of his passes. He was pivotal in containing Kevin De Bruyne.
Mac Allister was constantly involved and did well to control the middle line. While he failed to create a lot of chances, it was his well-struck penalty that put Liverpool level with Man City.
Elliot constantly getting the ball forward but he should’ve done better to pick out the right pass. He was catering to the wings when he should’ve been trying to put the ball into the box.
Was a constant threat to the Man City defence. While he failed to score a lot of goals he contributed by creating chances for his team. 24-year-old Nunez was crucial to today’s result. Was subbed off in the 74th minute.
Got multiple golden opportunities in front of the goal, but was really wasteful with his chances. The fans expect better from the Colombian and the Anfield crowd let him hear it when he slipped up. Diaz could’ve turned the game on its head but failed to make a difference when it mattered most. Cannot fault him for his pressing though.
Came on in the 60th minute in place of Dominik Szobozslai. Immediately after coming on the Egyptian played a beautiful pass into the final third to put Diaz in front of goal. Even got on two shots during the first five minutes. A stellar performance considering he only played 30 minutes.
Had a decent game and did what he could in the 30 minutes of playing time that he got.
