Former Manchester United hero Dwight Yorke has a “sneaky feeling” that Jurgen Klopp will return to coach Liverpool over the next few years.
The Reds are ready to bid Klopp farewell at the end of the current season, following his surprise decision to step down at the end of January. Klopp intends to take a long break from football to spend time with his family before taking on another challenge.
The charismatic German will definitely be remembered as an all-time Liverpool great after leading the club to its eighth piece of silverware during his rule, last month’s Carabao Cup final
defeat against Chelsea at Wembley. The League Cup triumph kept Liverpool’s ambitions of completing a historic quadruple alive, as the Reds competed for Premier League, Europa League, and FA Cup titles in Klopp’s final season at Anfield.
The team management is currently in the process of finding the best possible candidate to fill in the shoes of the legend Klopp, with several high-profile names at the top, like Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi, Ruben Amorim, and Julian Nagelsmann.
The former United striker is not happy with the choices of replacements Liverpool has and feels that Klopp will do a ‘surprise comeback’ to the Anfield dugout in a year or two. When talking to beIN SPORTS, former United striker said:
“I think he will return to Liverpool, maybe in a year or two years’ time. I just have a real sneaky feeling that’s what he will do.”
“I’m not going to go as far as saying inside info. I feel like when you look at the kind of quality of managers out there, there aren’t too many quality managers.”
Yorke’s comments will be met with encouragement from the Reds faithful who rather Klopp stay put. But then Bill Shankly also had to leave one day and was replaced by the equally legendary Bob Paisley who continues his good work. Whichever way the cookie crumbles, we hope whoever replaces Klopp can make full use of the foundations put in place to take the club to greater heights.
Liverpool also stated that assistant managers Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, as well as elite development coach Vitor Matos, will leave at the end of the season. This leaves them in a crucial state, with a lot of their staff leaving. They need to sort out their management soon and find suitable replacements. It will prove to be an interesting summer at Anfield.
