Fabrizio Romanio gives clarity on Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and the Germany job

We inevitably keep hearing more speculation about Jurgen Klopp and his future plans after he leaves Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season summer, with some rumors about him taking the German national team job in 2026.

He’s found himself strongly linked with the Germany national team job, with incumbent Julian Nagelsmann currently set to vacate the role after Euro 2024. But Italian reporter Fabrizio Romano via his Daily Briefing doesn’t envisage the current Reds boss taking charge of his country any time soon.

According to him, the only thing known for sure right now is that Klopp is not intending to speak to any club or national team for the moment—no chance. Germany have Nagelsmann now, a top coach, so their full focus is on the Euros. Any potential change will need to wait until after that and could depend on how well Germany perform at the tournament.

The Reds boss will step down from Anfield at the end of this summer

“We inevitably keep hearing more speculation about Jurgen Klopp’s future after he leaves Liverpool this summer, with some rumours about the German national team job for 2026. But for sure Klopp won’t negotiate anything now or this summer, no way.”

Given Klopp’s recent announcement about leaving Liverpool due to feeling “running out of energy,” it seems unlikely that he would immediately take on another coaching role after his time at Anfield ends. While leading his national team would be a significant honor for the German manager, the timing of such a move will be crucial.

Considering Klopp’s extensive career in football management since 2001, it’s reasonable for him to prioritize taking a break. This sentiment is reminiscent of Pep Guardiola, who took a one-year sabbatical between his managerial stints at Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Therefore, while Klopp may return to coaching eventually, it’s unlikely to be immediately after his departure from Liverpool, as suggested by Romano’s remarks.

Klopp’s agent has also confirmed the Liverpool boss will not be taking the vacant Germany national team job. The 56-year-old linked with the position in his homeland and it could be the grand finale to what has been a glittering career in club management. It is not common for a single person to become a legend at a club, let alone three- Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool will all look back at their manager with fondness in the years to come.

Klopp’s contributions to Liverpool Football Club have been monumental, revitalizing the team’s fortunes and laying the groundwork for sustained success in the future. However, the demands of managing a club of Liverpool’s stature undoubtedly take a toll, as evident in Klopp’s visible aging over the years.

Given his dedication and commitment to the club, Klopp deserves a well-earned break once he departs Anfield. His decision to prioritize his well-being and take time off from the rigors of football management should be respected and supported by fans and observers alike. Klopp’s legacy at Liverpool is secure, and whatever path he chooses to pursue next, he will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the club’s greatest managers.
