Bayern Munich ace could be on the move in the summer with Liverpool a potential destination

Liverpool among potential summer destinations for Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich

Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich is looking increasingly likely to depart the Allianz Arena next summer, according to Florian Plettenberg via X. The German international’s future has been the subject of intense speculation for months and the strained relationship with head coach Thomas Tuchel has done him no favours.

Tuchel’s departure at the end of the season will be music to Kimmich’s ears, but no progress is being made in convincing the versatile midfielder, who can play in both midfield and right-back, to commit his future to the club. With his contract set to expire in 2025, Die Roten have a decision to make.

According to a fresh report from Sky Germany, Bayern don’t necessarily want to sell Kimmich in the summer, but they will certainly be open to “very large” bids and, crucially, the player has a similar stance. The German also doesn’t necessarily want to leave Munich, but he will consider a departure if a suitable offer arrives.

The German has attention of several clubs

The 29-year-old has no intention of moving to Chelsea, Manchester United, or Paris Saint-Germain. Instead, Kimmich would consider joining Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Barcelona, and Real Madrid should the opportunity arise.

According to Plettenberg, Kimmich has “no shortage of suitors,” and he claims that some of the clubs the player would join have already made contact with him personally to inquire about a summer transfer as he does not have an agent.

An experienced head, Kimmich would add much steel to the Liverpool midfield. Also capable of playing as a right-back, signing Kimmich could provide the Reds with an interesting linkup with Trent Alexander-Arnold down that flank.

Kimmich haven’t been “happy” for the past few years

Kimmich’s thoughts on his transfer

Kimmich is out of contract in 2025 but there have been talks about whether Bayern will offer him a new one. He recently spoke about the suggestion that a new deal is in the works, saying to Bild

:

“No one has spoken to me yet. We’ll see what happens. For me the most important thing is that I perform well, I can’t influence the rest.”

“Yes I am comfortable at Bayern and in Munich – I have a few kids here. It’s not so bad here – even though we haven’t been quite as successful in terms of football in recent years. I have to say very clearly that I haven’t gone to bed happy every night for the past two or three years.”

If it came down to it, though, Liverpool wouldn’t be the only dogs in the fight. Guardiola signed Kimmich from RB Leipzig for Bayern nearly 10 years ago and would probably be interested, while United are always in the market for top names.

It all depends now on Kimmich, whether he intends to prolong his contract after Tuchel’s departure or seeks a challenge at another club. Liverpool would provide ideal conditions for him to thrive and he could well become one of the key faces of the post-Jurgen Klopp regime.
