Liverpool faces an intense battle for TSG Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier
TSG Hoffenheim centre-forward Maximilian Beier is a summer transfer target for numerous top European clubs including Liverpool. Beier has just received his first international call-up for the German National team after enjoying a productive form this season.
Standing at 1.85 metres, Beier has a slim physique but possesses a deceptive strength to shield the ball with ease. The 21-year-old has the versatility to play as a left winger and an attacking midfielder apart from his preferred centre-forward role.
He has good ball control and the capability to go past the opposition’s defence with blistering pace and acceleration. The German contributes a lot in build-up play, linking up with his teammates in the attacking phases.
Beier’s best quality is his finishing which is still improving as he has shown good technique and composure this season. The 21-year-old has made 27 appearances for Hoffenheim in all competitions, contributing with 12 goals and five assists this season.
His pace allows him to be a constant threat around the shoulders of the backline and during the counter-attacking phases. Beier’s consistent performances have attracted interest from several top clubs around Europe throughout this season, raising his reputation.
Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg (h/t X) highlighted that several top clubs, including Liverpool, have shown interest in Beier. The 21-year-old has a release clause of €30m during the summer, making him relatively cheaper compared to other young forwards.
Liverpool currently have a stacked attacking department with diverse and fluid players who bring something different to the table. The difference in quality has helped the Reds manager Jurgen Klopp use the players according to the tactical requirements.
However, the injury crisis has been a nagging issue for Liverpool while the contributions of some attackers have received criticism. Furthermore, Klopp is stepping back from the managerial role at the end of the season, leaving room for speculation.

The Reds exploited the release clause to sign Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister which worked to their advantage. Given Beier’s relatively cheap release clause compared to his reputation, they may opt to employ similar tactics.
