Man City manager Pep Guardiola says Liverpool are favourites to win the league title
Liverpool FC’s surge to the top of the Premier League table has thrown the title race into a thrilling climax, with Jurgen Klopp’s side now holding a two-point lead over their nearest rivals, Arsenal.
Manchester City’s recent draw with the Gunners has further bolstered Liverpool’s position at the summit, leaving Pep Guardiola’s men playing catch-up as the season enters its final stretch.
In typical fashion, Guardiola has employed his mind games, labelling Liverpool as the favourites to clinch the title. It’s a move that the wily Spaniard has employed in the past, attempting to shift the pressure onto Klopp‘s shoulders while maintaining a facade of calmness within his own camp.
Having said that, here is what Guardiola had to say via Mirror when asked if Liverpool were the favourites:
“Yes. First is always favourite, second is Arsenal and we’re third. It’s not in our hands. Aston Villa is the next game, so try to win it. It’s simple.”
Maintaining a winning mentality across both competitions [UEL and the PL] will be key to Liverpool’s success in the final stretch of the season. The squad’s depth and resilience will be tested, but with Klopp at the helm, there is a sense of belief and unity that permeates through the ranks.
However, amidst the euphoria of their current standing, we should remain acutely aware of the dangers of complacency. In football, fortunes can change in an instant, and any lapse in focus could jeopardise their title aspirations. As such, it is important to maintain humility and determination.
With the title within touching distance, it is important not to get full of ourselves and continue our title push with as much humility and perseverance as possible. We have come far too close to let go of the title on multiple occasions and cannot afford to drop our guard now.
