Liverpool overtake Tottenham record for securing most points from a losing position in the Premier League
Jurgen Klopp’s side has faced difficulties against Brighton in recent seasons, managing only one win in the last seven Premier League encounters. However, Liverpool improved their record on Sunday, securing a 2-1 victory.
After Danny Welbeck’s early strike within the opening 90 seconds of the game, Luis Diaz equalized for the Reds midway through the first half. Mohamed Salah then sealed the win with a goal in the 65th minute.
Liverpool created numerous opportunities throughout the match, with star midfielder Alexis Mac Allister consistently distributing passes to the strikers. One such pass led to Salah’s beautiful winning goal in the second half.
Liverpool marks yet another record (h/t Liverpool FC), with the Reds now winning 26 points from losing positions this season—more than any other club in the Premier League. Tottenham, who came from behind to beat Luton on Saturday, are next best with 22.
Klopp breaking records
The hard-fought victory was an impressive milestone for Klopp. Including wins in penalty shootouts, the German has now led Liverpool to 300 victories throughout his magnificent reign. What a great way of saying farewell.
He’s also only the fourth manager in club history to attain a triple century, joining Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, and Tom Watson. Klopp’s feat came on his 480th match in charge and 325th in the Premier League.
A big appreciation to Mac Allister delivering a superb, all-action midfield performance against his former team. The No. 10 was the driving force behind this comeback, constantly on the ball and probing while also covering a lot of distance defensively.
Their season began chaotically, with only three games won from behind the previous season. And that’s actually a pretty good return; continuing to win their last 10 matches played on the final day of the third month reflects a remarkable performance in the field of chaotic nonsense, although the pure absurdity against the Spurs eventually proved too much.
