The strike to give Liverpool a lead for the second time in the match against Sheffield United was no less than Steven Gerrard’s….. Should we say it? Hell yeah, Alexis Mac Allister was brilliant on the night against the Blades and his strike to give the Reds their second goal was no less than Gerrard’s goal against Olympiacos in the 2005 UEFA Champions League.
The Telegraph even dubbed it Macca‘s very own Steven Gerrard moment. Make no mistake, this goal can surely go a very long way in sealing the fate of the Reds in the race to win the Premier League. Darwin Nunez, Macca and Cody Gakpo were on target in the Reds’ 3-1 win and nobody can blame Jurgen Klopp for taking time to talk about the Argentina international’s goal separately.
The 25-year-old, after his antics against Sheffield United, takes his goal tally to six after 36 appearances across all competitions. He also has seven assists to boot. This strike, and the one against Fulham are surely, two of the finest goals we’ll ever see from any Liverpool midfielder.
Speaking of Mac Allister’s performance, here is what Jurgen Klopp had to say via The Mirror:
“We needed Macca’s wonder goal to turn it around It is obvious, he is a super important player for us. After the game he said thank you, I said gracias. Hola as well with my Spanish. Wonderful player, wonderful boy and really happy for Liverpool we got him.”
In hindsight, £35m for a player of his class is such a steal. Keep in mind his midfield partner at Brighton went for £100m+ as is the case with his Argentina midfield partner. Those two, while great talents, have not had it easy at the club they play for, but Macca
has been one of the league’s best midfielders, without any doubt,In a league where midfielders are often valued for their defensive attributes, pace or physicality, Mac Allister stands out as a player blessed with technical brilliance and tactical intelligence. His partnership with fellow midfielders including Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo among others has certainly provided Liverpool with a dynamic and potent midfield unit capable of dictating the tempo of games.
With his ability to deliver match-winning moments and influence games from midfield, he has proven himself to be a key player in Klopp’s title-chasing squad. His contributions shall be vital as Liverpool continue their push towards Premier League glory.
Klopp’s admiration for Alexis Mac Allister underscores the midfielder’s importance to Liverpool’s ambitions. With his remarkable talent and impactful performances, Mac Allister has emerged as a key figure in the Reds’ pursuit of silverware and that will surely be the case beyond Klopp’s tenure as well.
