Liverpool star Cody Gakpo stresses a calm approach as we enter the final stretch of the season
Liverpool Football Club hold a two-point advantage over second-placed Arsenal in the Premier League. The win against Sheffield United propelled the Reds back to the summit of the Premier League. Goals from Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo contributed to a 3-1 win over a stubborn Sheffield side.
While the world sings praise of Alexis Mac Allister’s goal [totally deserved], spare a thought for Cody Gakpo. Sturggling with inconsistent form mainly due to no clarity on what position he plays, the player did very well in the last few minutes against Chris Wilder’s side and scored a goal as well.
Gakpo, in 44 appearances across all competitions this season, has 14 goals and five assists to his name. While his versatility is one of his core strengths, a lack of clarity on where best to utilise him has seen Jurgen Klopp play him all across the frontline and even in central midfield on a couple of occasions.
Composure is key!
However, as is his demeanour, he calls for a calm approach towards the business end of the season with the Reds inching closer to a record 20th league title. Here is what he told the club’s official website on the title run:
“Obviously we are aware of the situation but we just try to approach every game and stay calm,”
“Obviously your mind can go all over the place if you are thinking about the end of the season, but we just have to take it game by game.”
“We are doing it pretty well at the moment and we just need to stay calm and stay focused.”
In a league where unexpected twists and turns are common, Gakpo’s call for composure and concentration is a timely reminder of the importance of maintaining perspective amidst the excitement of a title challenge.
With their fate in their own hands, Liverpool must continue to approach each game with the same level of determination and intensity that has brought them success so far. Gakpo’s leadership on and off the pitch will be crucial as the Reds look to maintain their momentum and secure the coveted Premier League title.
Gakpo’s calm and focused approach towards the end of the season certainly reflects the mentality of the entire Liverpool squad. With the title race reaching its climax, Gakpo’s message serves as a reminder of the importance of composure and concentration in pursuit of success.
