Liverpool star explains why winning the Premier League is important this season

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah claims that winning the second Premier League is necessary for his legacy at the club

Mohamed Salah asserted that winning the second Premier League title is necessary for his legacy at Liverpool football club. Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League table with a game in hand which they play against Manchester United.

The Reds lost 4-3 at Old Trafford recently in the FA Cup clash with the Manchester rivals. They conceded two goals in the last 15 minutes of the extra time due to fatigue from a congested fixture period.

Furthermore, Liverpool failed to be clinical during the game despite having numerous chances to end the match in the 90 minutes. United also stopped the Reds during their visit to Anfield by parking the bus and playing low-block tactics.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has continued his prolific goalscoring career for the club this season.

Liverpool needs to make sure that they return with three points in the crucial game to retain the top spot. A potential victory would leave seven tough games with a two-point advantage over Arsenal.

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t YouTube), Salah asserted the importance of winning the second Premier League title for his legacy. He said:

“Its necessary to win one more [Premier League title]. We won the league just one time so we’ll be great to win a second time. Two times win the Premier League and one Champions League, I think it is necessary for our legacy here in the club to win the Premier League for the second time”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp announced that he is stepping back from the managerial role at the end of the current season. The announcement has added extra incentive for the Reds to finish the season strongly with a major trophy victory.

The 31-year-old has played a pivotal role for Liverpool this season, continuing his prolific form despite changes in his responsibility. To compensate for his ageing, Salah has relied more on creativity, link-up play and technique than his pace and dribbling.

More Liverpool news

Salah has won the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup twice under Klopp. The Reds are also battling for the Europa League title, scheduled to play Atalanta during the quarter-finals in April. Liverpool needs to take each game as a cup final to achieve their goal, avoiding any complacency or lack of composure.
