Famed transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reveals the contract situation surrounding Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim as link with Liverpool intensifies

Fabrizio Romano provided details about the release clause that Liverpool-linked Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim has in his current contract. Amorim’s club beat Benfica 2-1 on Saturday in a dramatic late-goal encounter to increase their lead in the Liga Portugal.

Sporting CP are currently four points ahead of Benfica in the league table with a game in hand. Their victory over Benfica in the Taca de Portugal recently earned them a spot in the final, which takes place on 26th May.

Since his appointment in the latter stages of the 2019-20 season, Amorim has achieved great success at his current club. He won Sporting CP’s first league title in 19 years during his first full season with the club.

The 39-year-old is attempting to win his second Liga Portugal title with the Portuguese giants this season. He has bestowed a culture of developing young players and installed an attacking philosophy in the club.

The former Portugal international established Verde e Brancos as one of the giants alongside Porto and Benfica, ending their dominance. Amorim uses the attacking and possessional style of play while deploying a 3-4-3 formation that reshapes according to the game.

The three-man defence plays a pivotal role in the possessional play as the build-up begins from the backline. The attacking wingbacks provide the flair and width to stretch the opponents while double-pivot midfielders exploit the spaces.

The central forward plays alongside two inside forwards in a fluid attacking strategy, interchanging positions to become unpredictable. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has built a squad that fits the profile perfectly for Amorim’s strategy.

Romano used his official X account to summarize Amorim’s contract situation with multiple release clauses according to the clubs’ regionality. The report states that the €30m release clause is valid for clubs in Portugal while the €20m release clause is for foreign clubs.

Romano further stated that a verbal pact is in place in case of a top club proposal in which €10m is enough. Amorim has recently stated that he cannot guarantee his stay at the current club amid links from Liverpool.

Klopp announced that he is stepping back from the managerial job at Liverpool at the end of this season. The early announcement allowed the Reds to make immediate moves and restructure the club to make a swift transition. Currently, Amorim is the firm favourite, but both he and Liverpool are focusing on this season’s aspirations.
