Liverpool go up against PL giants in the race for stellar La Liga shotstopper

Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool are showing interest in Filip Jorgensen

Liverpool are ready to battle Arsenal and Manchester City to sign Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen during the summer transfer window. Jorgensen is currently the primary goalkeeper for Villarreal, playing prominently in the La Liga while rotating in the cup competitions.

Villarreal are currently 11th in the La Liga and they have struggled defensively this season, leaking plenty of goals. The Spanish side has conceded 53 goals from 30 matches in La Liga, resulting in their poor positioning this season.

Jorgensen deserves less blame for conceding so many goals, as the defence ahead of him has provided poor protection. Standing at 1.90 metres, the 21-year-old has a dominant presence in front of the goal which he applies in shot stopping.

Apart from being a good shot-stopper, Jorgensen is also brilliant at collecting ball during the set-piece situations. His understanding of the opponent’s delivery and good positioning helps him reach for the crosses and long balls.

However, the Denmark U21 needs to work on his distribution which is an essential asset for a modern-day goalkeeper. The majority of the top clubs prefer to start their buildup from the backline and goalkeepers play a crucial role.

The early distribution and precise deliveries play a pivotal role in counter-attacking strategies for the top teams. Jorgensen’s poor distribution is a hindrance that he needs to overcome to fulfil his potential as a top goalkeeper.

Fichajes reported that Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City are planning to sign Jorgensen from Villarreal during the summer transfer window. The report suggests that the Premier League clubs want to add the 21-year-old as a backup to their first-team goalkeepers.

Liverpool’s secondary goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has performed brilliantly in the absence of an injured first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker. Despite making few errors, Kelleher has maintained a good consistent form, making numerous saves despite the poor protection from defence.

Kelleher attracted interest from several clubs to become their first-choice goalkeeper during the last summer. Those clubs would likely return this summer to finalize the deal with the attraction of regular first-team football. Jorgensen

could be a good backup option if Kelleher departs during the summer but as things stand, the situation of these players is mere speculation.
