Steve Nicol suggests Liverpool to replace Mohamed Salah with Victor Osimhen
Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has voiced his opinion on potential replacements for Mohamed Salah, suggesting that Napoli’s Victor Osimhen would be an excellent addition to the Reds’ squad. With Salah’s future at Anfield becoming increasingly uncertain, especially in light of Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure, speculation continues to swirl about the Egyptian’s next destination.
Salah has been a talismanic figure for Liverpool since he arrived in 2017, consistently topping the club’s goal-scoring charts and playing a pivotal role in their recent successes. 342 appearances, 209 goals and 88 assists.
However, with growing interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere, Liverpool may face a challenge in retaining their star forward. Nicol believes that Osimhen possesses the qualities to fill the potential void left by Salah’s departure.
Speaking on ESPN FC, the former Liverpool defender highlighted Osimhen’s work rate and ability to link up with creative midfielders as key attributes that would make him an ideal fit for Liverpool’s system.
“The fact that Salah is going to be going, whether this year or next year, Osimhen? I think he would be fantastic for Liverpool. The middle of the park, we’ve just signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, Endo’s turned out to be incredible, you need someone who will run all day and give it to Mac Allister, Szoboszlai and Salah.”
Osimhen to the Reds?
Osimhen, who has been plying his trade with Napoli in Serie A, has garnered attention for his pace, power, and clinical finishing. The Nigerian international’s ability to run tirelessly and create opportunities for his teammates would surely make him a valuable asset for any top-tier club, including Liverpool. He has 15 goals and four assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.
Nicol’s endorsement of Osimhen comes at a time when Liverpool are facing questions about their attacking depth and the future of their front line. While Salah’s contributions have been invaluable, the club must plan for a future without him, and identifying a suitable replacement is crucial.
Liverpool’s recent struggles in front of goal have highlighted the need for reinforcements, with Klopp’s side often relying heavily on Salah and Diogo Jota for goals. The lack of consistent scoring threats beyond these two forwards has been a cause for concern, and addressing this issue will be a priority for the club’s next manager.

The potential acquisition of Osimhen could provide Liverpool with the attacking impetus they need to challenge for domestic and European honours. His versatility and ability to adapt to different styles of play would offer tactical flexibility and allow the team to maintain their high-intensity, pressing game.
However, securing Osimhen’s services won’t be straightforward, as Napoli are unlikely to part ways with their prized asset without a significant transfer fee. Liverpool will need to navigate the complexities of the transfer market and possibly fend off competition from other suitors to land their target.
