BBC pundit has his say on out-of-form Liverpool taking on Fulham in important PL clash

BBC Pundit Chris Sutton predicts that Fulham can further punish out-of-form Liverpool by taking two points amid the title race

Chris Sutton believes that Fulham can unleash more pain on Liverpool as their struggle with form continues. The Reds cannot afford to drop more points amid their poor form with six games remaining in the Premier League.

Liverpool are currently third in the Premier League table, two points behind the league leaders Arsenal with a game in hand. They dropped four points in the last two Premier League fixtures and only have themselves to blame for it.

The Reds dominated Manchester United at Old Trafford in the first half with enough chances to wrap up the game. However, they self-destructed in the second half, allowing United to come back as the game finished 2-2 and Liverpool lost two points.

The Reds suffered a home loss last weekend against Crystal Palace after the visitors scored an early goal. Palace produced an impressive defensive display alongside horrible finishing from Liverpool players as they missed several chances.

Sutton shared his prediction on the BBC Sport column, claiming that Fulham will achieve a 1-1 draw against Liverpool. He said:

“All three games between these teams this season have been close, and I am expecting more of the same on Sunday. Liverpool won a thriller 4-3 at Anfield in the league, followed by a 2-1 home win in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final. I was at Craven Cottage for the second leg, which ended up a 1-1 draw. This is a must-win for Jurgen Klopp’s side to keep their title hopes alive, because their season has started to unravel.”

The Reds have displayed complacency in both the offensive and defensive phases of the game which has proven costly. Conceding early goals only allows their opponents to sit back and exploit spaces on the counter-attacks throughout the game.

Apart from poor composure and complacent finishing in the attack, the forwards end up running out of ideas. Their poor finishing has received heavy criticism from the fanbase and the pundits associated with the club.

The slow transition from the defence due to lack of movement up front only allows wayward passing and mistakes. Liverpool lost the ball many times in their Europa League tie against Atalanta which they lost at home.

The poor performances have already cost Liverpool the Europa League and they cannot afford more slip-ups in the Premier League. With only six games remaining, they have limited time to work on their issue and hope that their title rivals slip up.
