Former Liverpool man Stephen Warnock reflects on dark phase in his career

Former Liverpool and England defender Stephen Warnock has opened up about the emotional rollercoaster he faced following the end of his professional football career.

Warnock, who chalked up over 550 appearances across 16 seasons for 10 different clubs, including 67 outings for Liverpool, spoke openly about falling out of love with the game and grappling with feelings of failure as his career drew to a close.

Speaking candidly with Sky Sports as part of the Real Talk series, Warnock delved into the profound impact his retirement had on his mental well-being.

“I phoned him, and I tell him all the time he saved my life,”

“He said he’d watched me on TV and noticed that my voice sounded different, my body language had changed, and I looked more confident,”

“It was one of the best moments of my life, knowing how far I’d come.”
