Journo explains how Liverpool’s managerial target’s ‘pressure tactic’ backfired and saw the club turn to Arne Slot

CNN Portugal journalist Bruno Andrade reveals the ill-advised business tactics by Ruben Amorim that titled Liverpool towards Arne Slot

Bruno Andrade revealed that Ruben Amorim and his agent attempted to pressure Liverpool, leading them to target Feyenoord manager Arne Slot. Sporting Lisbon manager Amorim and his agent travelled to London to meet West Ham United to put pressure on Liverpool.

However, their ill-advised miscalculation proved costly as Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes changed their managerial target, focusing on Slot instead. Liverpool have maintained their no-nonsense method in the transfer market since Edwards supervised the club as the sporting director.

The Reds will operate in a similar and successful methodology and philosophy as he now controls the footballing operation. Slot is now a firm favourite to succeed outgoing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and operate under the structure placed at the club.

Despite his success, Amorim has operated with more freedom and power at Sporting CP which he would want at Anfield. Furthermore, the rumours suggested a high yearly pay for Amorim alongside the big release clause that he governs.

Amorim has achieved great success with the Portuguese club but coming from Liga Portugal to the Premier League is massive. Furthermore, taking over at one of the greatest clubs in football while succeeding one of their greatest managers requires humility.

Many Liverpool fans have rightfully voiced their displeasure about the Portuguese travelling to London in the middle of the season. Despite Sporting CP’s position at the top, it is very disrespectful towards his current club that provided him the opportunity.

According to Andrade (h/t @brunoandrd X account), Amorim and his agent visited West Ham United to put pressure on Liverpool. The CNN Portugal journalist further stated that Liverpool quickly shifted their focus to Slot after finding Amorim‘s strategy unimpressive.

Slot has a tactical and philosophical style that matches Liverpool and his personality and character fit the profile. Liverpool needs a head coach who can work under a healthy structure, developing players instead of buying readymade quality.

Furthermore, they need a personality who can build a connection with the fanbase just like Klopp, bringing everyone together. The majority of the fanbase is not familiar with Slot but they have complete faith in Edwards and his ability to get the best individuals for the club.
