Atletico Madrid are monitoring the situation surrounding Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez amid the managerial change at Anfield during the summer
Atletico Madrid wants a new central forward with Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez on their radar amid uncertainty surrounding his future. Nunez’s future is uncertain as he removed every picture related to Liverpool from his official Instagram account in recent days.
The Reds’ fanbase has supported the Uruguayan forward thoroughly by continuously chanting his name as he struggled to score goals. However, social media is another beast entirely where the ruthless section of football followers continuously attacks professional players.
There is a high chance of those continuous attacks on Darwin and his family taking a toll on him recently. The attacks, lacking constructive criticism and filled with hate, also involve rival fans masquerading as the Liverpool faithful.
Nunez has struggled with composure and confidence in front of the goal, lacking the conviction to finish goalscoring chances on many occasions. However, other attackers in the Reds department have struggled with similar issues including legendary forward Mohamed Salah.
The problem with complacency in both the attacking and the defensive phases cost Liverpool three titles in one bad month. Nunez has played a key role in an overall good season by Liverpool under Klopp, contributing significantly to overall play.
Fichajes reported that Atletico are planning to replace outgoing forward Alvaro Morata with Nunez as a possible option. The situation between Nunez and Liverpool is volatile while many fans hope that calm heads will prevail in the end.
The 24-year-old has scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists from 52 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this season. Despite his high contribution, the media and the social media attacks have hurt his reputation in the transfer market.

The situation means that it is unlikely that the Reds would recoup all the money they have spent on Nunez. However, there is no chance of Nunez leaving the club on a loan deal, given the money spent on him. If the 24-year-old is unable to put the situation behind him and work with the new manager, he could face the exit.
