Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth reveals that Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah has the power to decide his future this summer
Dharmesh Sheth claimed that Liverpool cannot sell Mohomed Salah against his will even if they want to sell the forward. Salah has only one season remaining in his contract after the end of the current season and many interested clubs.
The Reds have an important decision to make during the summer as they cannot let the 31-year-old leave for free. The situation puts the club in a unique position where they have to negotiate a new contract or sell their legend.
Liverpool’s CEO of football Michael Edwards generally refrains from giving lucrative contracts to players beyond 30 years of age. At the same time, despite his age and recent drop in form, Salah holds a huge valuation in the transfer market.
Liverpool works on a restricted budget and relies on selling players to replace them in the transfer market whenever possible. They cannot afford to lose one of their prime assets to leave as a free agent after the next season.
Sheth told GIVEMESPORT that Salah can stay put even if Liverpool wants to cash in on him this summer. He said:
“If you look at it in black and white, Mohamed Salah is under contract at Liverpool. As far as that goes, he will be a Liverpool player next season. The noises we’re getting out of Liverpool are that they expect him to be at Anfield next season. Some of the noises emanating from the Mohamed Salah side would be that he wants to stay at Liverpool. If all of that comes to fruition, he will remain at the club. At the end of the day, it is Mohamed Salah’s decision because he is under contract at Liverpool, so he will decide whether he will stay or not. If Liverpool say it is the right time to sell him, Mohamed Salah does not have to go.”
Salah has continued to be prolific for the Reds despite changes in his style of play due to ageing. The 31-year-old relies more on link-up plays and his technical qualities than challenging opponents in a ground duel.
The Egyptian’s pace and agility have slightly regressed and the opponents use that knowledge against him in the middle phases. Liverpool have worked brilliantly to negate the changes and prosper alongside Salah but the situation backfired at a crucial stage.

As the 31-year-old struggled with form, the right flank turned into a liability and restricted the Reds from creating threats. Liverpool lost out on multiple trophies in an anti-climactic fashion after enjoying a promising season by working hard in unity.
Edwards and new sporting director Richard Hughes have a big decision to make during the summer. They also need to have a long-term replacement planned, someone who could compete with Salah next season, avoiding the suffering of the current season.
