Liverpool wants to snatch the €60 million-rated Manchester United target defender
According to the Spanish publication Fichajes, the competition to recruit young defender Odilon Kossounou from Bayer Leverkusen is heating up, with Liverpool and Manchester United at the forefront.
The Ivorian rising star has made a huge name for himself by showcasing amazing performances in recent times. The 23-year-old has drawn interest from many European powerhouses as one of the Bundesliga’s most promising defenders.
Particularly, Liverpool is keen to steal the signature from their enduring rivals, Manchester United. This desire stems from Liverpool’s efforts to fortify its rearguard in order to contend for titles in both England and Europe once more.
With the departure of the beloved boss, Jurgen Klopp, the upcoming Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, is going to bring a plethora of changes along with him to Anfield this summer, throughout the management team and the squad both.
This summer, Liverpool’s priority area for change is most likely going to be their defence. With their key defenders, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, most likely ready to depart the club, Liverpool is going to need some quality additions to their defensive lineup.
Liverpool is the frontrunner for Kossounou, whom Leverkusen values at about €60 million. The player’s current contract expires in 2026, and the Bundesliga team is rumoured to have made him an offer for a new one, but they have not yet agreed on terms.
But interest in the Ivorian star doesn’t end in England. Kossounou is also a target for Real Madrid, Tottenham, and Bayern Munich. Because Bayer Leverkusen knows how valuable their player is, they won’t readily accept bids.

This season, Kossounou has been a vital component of Xabi Alonso’s all-conquering Leverkusen team, and the Bundesliga winner will be hesitant to let him leave. However, given his high stock, it could be the greatest moment to sell him if he refuses to sign a new contract. He would strengthen Liverpool’s defence in a big way.
