Pep Lijnders reveals who he thinks has been most valuable for Liverpool in the Jurgen Klopp era
Jurgen Klopp‘s trusty lieutenant, Pep Lijnders, a former assistant coach at Liverpool, has identified the player without whom the Reds’ achievement would not have been possible.
Lijnders was a member of Liverpool before Klopp’s arrival, having come to Anfield from FC Porto to work as the Reds’ U18 coach. In 2018, he returned after a six-month stint in the Netherlands with NEC Nijmegen as Klopp’s assistant after being working with the first team.
The former assistant manager recently decided to depart the Reds along with his beloved boss Jurgen Klopp also leaving Anfield behind. A legendary duo that led Liverpool to huge heights came to an end last week.
Recently, in an interview with The RedMen TV, Lijnders mentions the name who he thinks has made everything possible for the Reds. He said:
“Ali [Alisson] is the one who made everything possible. Without this guy, no chance. You need a good, good goalkeeper to win trophies.”
Alisson Becker has been a wonderful asset and the number 1 to Liverpool. Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet were Liverpool’s goalies prior to Alisson joining from AS Roma. However, neither player was able to claim the jersey as their own with enough conviction.
Alisson will most likely stay at Liverpool this summer despite Saudi Arabia’s interest in the Brazilian. As suggested by Lijnders’ remarks, he would be nearly impossible to replace should he depart.
Moreover, it is no doubt in the fact that Liverpool has a wonderful number 2 in the squad as well, Caoimhin Kelleher. Kelleher played half of the games during the last season performing remarkably. He was an amazing replacement when Becker was dealing with his injuries.
His amazing display of talent has led to several clubs lined up for the Irish stopper. Though it remains unknown that if the star would be willing to make a move out of the Reds this summer.

Alisson is without a doubt one of the world’s greatest goalies. He is the whole package for how Klopp (and now Slot) want to play in terms of his saves, positioning, and attack initiating. A wonderful asset for the Reds indeed.
