Liverpool faces pressure to extend the contract of Mohamed Salah amid plan by Saudi Arabia to lure him for free

Clubs from Saudi Arabia are planning to sign Mohamed Salah for free, putting pressure on Liverpool to quickly extend the contract. Salah has 12 months left in his current Liverpool contract alongside captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold.

With the interested parties looking to sign them for free, the Reds need to secure the trio as quickly as possible. Salah has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League since the beginning of the last season and they remain keenly interested.

The 31-year-old has enjoyed a prolific season for Liverpool despite facing a sudden drop in form during the season’s end. Salah is still a pivotal figure at the club that is facing a transition period with the change in management.

Beloved and legendary manager Jurgen Klopp left the club with new head coach Arne Slot succeeding the German at Liverpool. Salah used his X account to reveal his ambitions for the next season, indirectly shunning any rumours of a summer exit.

According to the Telegraph, Saudi Arabian clubs are planning to sign Salah as a free agent after his contract expires. Liverpool rejected a £150m offer from Al-Ittihad for Salah during the summer of 2022, maintaining that the Egyptian is indispensable.

However, the Reds cannot afford to lose one of their biggest assets for free which could hurt their plans. Liverpool works under a restricted budget compared to their Premier League rivals and having a good net spending is important.

The inevitable departure of Salah would require a worthy replacement for the legendary forward which could prove costly. Despite the age, he is still the most lethal and productive player at the club going into the next season. The 31-year-old made 44 appearances in all competitions for the Reds last season, contributing 25 goals and 14 assists.
