Football legend Roberto Carlos praised Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold while rejecting other fullbacks including Kyle Walker, in comparison to Cafu

Brazil legend Roberto Carlos praised Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold amid a quiz that compared Cafu with fullbacks including Kyle Walker. Carlos has an untouchable legacy as one of the greatest fullbacks in football history, having immense offensive abilities and techniques.

During his professional career, people recognized Carlos for his incredible left foot, which enabled him to deliver inch-perfect crosses and shoot accurate free-kicks. The 51-year-old holds a lot of respect in the footballing world, making his opinions invaluable and unarguable amongst football fans.

Meanwhile, modern-day football fans have debated the “best fullbacks of the current generation” among themselves, particularly in the Premier League. Over this vigorous debate, the regular names are Walker, Trent, Reece James, Andy Robertson, Keiran Trippier and even Ben White.

Speaking to Goal (via X), Carlos eliminated many legendary names compared to Cafu but stumbled over Trent’s comparison. He said:

“Caramba! Alexander-Arnold is very good player but the history, it’s Cafu.”

Before this statement, Carlos easily rejected players like Marcelo, Phillip Lahm, Gary Neville, Ashley Cole, Erik Abidal, Robertson and Walker. He only picked legendary fullback Paolo Maldini over Cafu in his comparison quiz, who is still the benchmark for the majority.

The biggest argument is generally between Walker, Trent and Reece as they compete for the role with England. A manager can extract the trio’s respective strengths and weaknesses according to the tactical requirements.

Reece continues to fight with recurring injuries, so the quiz did not even mention him. The Chelsea fullback has spent most of his football career on the sideline to be part of any debate.

At the same time, Walker has enjoyed a fantastic career with Manchester City but his offensive output is nowhere near Trent’s. The Liverpool vice-captain is one of the best offensive footballers and a key playmaker at the club.
