Saudi Pro League are targeting Liverpool duo Joe Gomez and Luis Diaz during the summer transfer window

Liverpool forward Luis Diaz and defender Joe Gomez are the transfer targets for Saudi Pro League clubs during the summer. The duo played a pivotal role for the Reds last season under Jurgen Klopp as the club goes through transition.

New head coach Arne Slot has succeeded Klopp at Liverpool during the summer, increasing the transfer rumours for several players. Gomez has stayed at Liverpool throughout Klopp’s era after signing for the club at the age of 18.

The 27-year-old has played an important role in Liverpool’s success and last season he earned praise for his versatility. Gomez played in several positions due to the injury crisis that ravaged the Liverpool squad as the congested fixtures arrived.

The Englishman played as a right-back, centre-back, left-back and defensive midfielder for the Reds while maintaining his consistency. Gomez is one of the locker room leaders and he is playing in the peak years of his career.

Meanwhile, Diaz established himself as the first-team regular on the left wing for Liverpool despite ups and downs in form. However, the Colombia international maintained his consistency despite the sudden drop in form that ruined Liverpool’s season in the end.

Daily Mail reported that Saudi Pro League clubs are targeting both Gomez and Diaz as potential options this summer. The financially powerful league wants to sign younger players to look more attractive compared to their European counterparts.

Saudi clubs failed to attract fanbase last season despite signing several highly-reputed players for a massive wage and price tag. Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho are some of the former Liverpool players currently playing in the Saudi Pro League.

Both Diaz and Gomez are important parts of the Liverpool squad and only a massive price would lure them away. While Saudi clubs are capable of spending big, it is speculative to assume the desire of the players to leave Europe for a struggling league.
