Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claimed Liverpool are scouting Lille defender Leny Yoro and Eintracht Frankfurt defender Willian Pacho for reinforcement
Fabrizio Romano revealed that Liverpool are monitoring Lille defender Leny Yoro and Eintracht Frankfurt defender Willian Pacho this summer. Liverpool intends to buy a centre-back during the summer to bolster their defence, a potential successor to Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds conceded many early goals last season that turned into a severe problem with dire consequences in the end. They lost the Europa League and the Premier League due to their sudden dip in form after the attacking department failed.
Furthermore, Liverpool have lost their long-serving experienced centre-back Joel Matip as his contract expired and he left for free. Ibrahima Konate has struggled with nagging injury and poor form during the end of the last season.
Meanwhile, Jarell Quansah’s rise has saved a lot of money for the Reds as he continues to demonstrate his quality. Joe Gomez has showcased his immense versatility and desire to play at any position that the team require.
The Reds need another defensive option who can challenge Van Dijk next season and eventually succeed him in the team. They would need to address the issue while keeping new head coach Arne Slot’s preference in mind.
Romano told GIVEMESPORT that Liverpool will sign a centre-back during the summer with Yoro and Pacho on their radar. He said:
“A player they really like but there are many clubs on him is, for example, Leny Yoro. He is on the list of Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, who have also been scouting him – so let’s see what happens there. And then [Willian] Pacho from Eintracht Frankfurt is another player they have been monitoring and scouting. But again, we have to see who is the player they really want to bring in. This isn’t decided yet, and so for sure, Liverpool will go in for a new centre-back – but they still have to decide who is the player that they want to bring in.”
Yoro is a transfer target for both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, making the situation problematic for Liverpool. The 18-year-old is already making waves at the senior level, showcasing immense potential and impressing despite fierce competition. Madrid and PSG have the financial power to provide astronomical wages for the 18-year-old that the Reds cannot match.

Meanwhile, Pacho is a more realistic target for Liverpool but he is also attracting interest from top European clubs. The Reds need to make a full assessment and find the right transfer deal before they can act upon their interest.
Romano has a renowned reputation in the footballing world backed by the limitless contacts he has acquired. Nevertheless, the Italian journalist usually shuffles the news from the players’ agents or other journalists, particularly when it is related to Liverpool. He persistently linked Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio to Liverpool, a transfer rumour that other reliable journalists consistently debunk.
