Liverpool have begun the search for Mohamed Salah’s long-term replacement
According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool are in the transfer market to find a long-term replacement for star forward Mohamed Salah.
New Liverpool boss Arne Slot is in for a busy summer of transfer dealings, and with the help of new sporting director Richard Hughes, he could build a strong squad for the 2024/25 season. However, there is uncertainty hanging over the futures of some Liverpool players.
One of them is Mohamed Salah; the Egypt international has underlined his status as one of the world’s best players with a brilliant seven-year stay at Anfield, where the forward has plundered 211 goals in just 349 games to become the club’s fifth-highest goalscorer.
However, with just a year left on his deal, the 31-year-old and Liverpool are facing some crunch talks over his future amid interest from Saudi Arabia. Football Insider claims both Salah and Liverpool are set to make a joint decision on whether he will remain at Anfield and become a key part of Arne Slot’s plans.
Presently, the highest-paid player at Liverpool, earning an eye-popping £350,000 a week, the Egyptian is well aware that he can easily earn a lot more by making the move to cash-rich Saudi Pro League, where Al-Ittihad might revive their interest after launching a sensational £150m bid in 2023.
Liverpool plans to recruit a new winger once the transfer window reopens later this month as they would like to have a replacement for Salah already in the bag before the forward’s ultimate departure, the report adds.
PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko has been on the Reds’ radar for some time now, with Arne Slot very much aware of his qualities and potential following his time as Feyenoord manager.
The explosive winger bagged 14 goals and as many assists in 48 appearances across all competitions last season, helping Peter Bosz’s PSV side win the Eredivisie title. Having been named in Domenico Tedesco’s Belgium squad for the upcoming Euro 2024, Bakayoko’s performances on the big stage could have a big say on his price tag.

Bakayoko is clearly a talent with huge potential to unlock, which perfectly fits with Liverpool’s recruitment strategy. If Slot and Hughes feel the Belgian winger is the ideal replacement for Salah, they must do everything possible to bring him to Merseyside.
