Liverpool must keep an eye out for these lads in UEFA Euro 2024
With UEFA Euro 2024 just around the corner, the scouts of Liverpool will be out in full force, looking for the next big thing to boost the squad.
Arne Slot is yet to integrate with the squad, most of whom are preparing for the upcoming international tournament. While the squad is strong enough, and Jurgen Klopp has laid him the mightiest of foundations to build on, Slot would likely be keen on introducing some new boys into the squad for his own satisfaction.
Here are five players the Reds should seriously consider keeping an eye on during the tournament.
Kenan Yildiz – Turkey
The Germany-born Turkish playmaker’s been causing quite a stir over in Italy with Juventus. The young Turkish midfielder’s got some serious tekkers, with his silky skills, vision, and ability to run the show from the middle of the park. He’s only 19 but already looks like a star in the making. If he has a blinder of a tournament with Turkey, Liverpool might see him as a future maestro who can bring some fresh energy and creativity to our midfield. Yildiz’s knack for threading those killer passes could be a real asset for Slot’s side.
Yildiz has been turning heads in Serie A, not just with his fancy footwork but also his maturity and cool-headedness at such a young age. He’s the kind of player who can take control of a match, pulling the strings and breaking down defences with those pinpoint passes. Kudos to his versatility, he can play anywhere across the frontline. His club statistics for last season read six goals and two assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.
For Liverpool, who love a midfielder who can support the high press and fast-paced game, Yildiz could be pure gold. Watching him at Euro 2024 will show us if he can handle the pressure on a bigger stage, which is crucial for a lad who could be central to Liverpool’s future.
Lamine Yamal – Spain
Don’t even tell anyone that you haven’t heard of this lad’s name. It is truly possible that the rock above your head is as big as a continent if you are unaware of the talent of Lamine Yamal. Now, trying to nab Lamine Yamal from Barcelona is like trying to climb Everest in flip-flops, but it’s worth a punt. This young Spaniard has already shown he’s vital for Barca, with his dazzling dribbles, pace, and eye for goal. He’s just 16, but his potential is through the roof.
While it’s a long shot, if Liverpool could somehow convince him to make the move, they’d be bagging a player who could light up Anfield for years. Seven goals and 10 assists for Barcelona at his age is bloody bonkers.
His ability to take on defenders, his vision, and his knack for scoring make him a thrilling prospect. For the Mighty Reds, with their history of nurturing young talent, Yamal could be an ideal fit. His pace and technical skills would suit the Reds’ attacking style perfectly. Long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah? Tick tock.
Illia Zabarnyi – Ukraine
Illia Zabarnyi’s already making a name for himself in the Premier League with Bournemouth. The 21-year-old Ukrainian centre-back has shown maturity beyond his years, with strong defensive abilities and top-notch positioning. Liverpool’s backline could use a bit of shoring up, and Zabarnyi’s performances at Euro 2024 could cement him as a target.
He’s got the physicality and composure to fit right into the Reds’ defence and could be a long-term partner for Virgil van Dijk or rather Ibrahima Konate. His development at Bournemouth has been impressive, with his ability to read the game and make crucial interceptions standing out. He’s also shown a good grasp of the Premier League’s pace and physicality, which would make his transition to Liverpool smoother.
For the Reds, who’ve had their fair share of injury woes in defence, having a young, reliable centre-back like Zabarnyi would be a massive boost. His performance at the Euros will show if he can handle the heat, and if he shines, Liverpool should definitely make a move.
Antonio Silva – Portugal
This guy is another defender who’s been catching the eye at Benfica. The 20-year-old Portuguese centre-back is known for his solid defensive skills, aerial ability, and leadership qualities. Liverpool could do with someone of Silva’s calibre to bolster their defence, adding depth and competition for places. Silva’s performance at the Euros will be crucial in assessing whether he can handle the Premier League’s intensity and physicality. If he impresses, Liverpool should definitely consider bringing him in.
Silva has shown great promise in the Primeira Liga, with his commanding presence and ability to play out from the back. His aerial prowess and tackling skills make him a formidable defender, and at 20, he’s only going to get better.
Silva could be a key addition for any side, ANY SIDE. His leadership qualities, even at a young age, are impressive, and he could provide a steadying influence in the backline. Keeping an eye on him during Euro 2024 will show if he can step up to the challenge.
Alessandro Bastoni – Italy
For assumption’s sake, let’s just say, a human has four eyes. All four of Liverpool’s eyes have to be on Bastoni in that case 100% attention towards him. Massively underrated, and easily among the top five defenders in the world at the moment.
He has certainly been a rock at the back for Inter Milan, showcasing his defensive solidity and calmness under pressure. The 25-year-old Italian defender is known for his excellent positioning, strong tackling, and ability to play out from the back.
Liverpool could use someone of Bastoni’s calibre to bolster their defence, especially given the occasional injury issues they’ve had with key defenders. His performances for Italy in Euro 2024 will undoubtedly be a good indicator of whether he can adapt to the Premier League’s intensity and physicality. He can also play left-back if needed, and wear the captain’s armband if needed. Do everything that is needed.
Bastoni’s experience in Serie A and the Champions League makes him a standout candidate. He’s been part of an Inter Milan side that has consistently been strong defensively, and his ability to remain composed under pressure is something Liverpool could greatly benefit from. His distribution from the back is another asset, fitting perfectly with Liverpool’s style of building from the back. Watching him at the Euros will provide insight into his adaptability and readiness for a potential move to the Premier League.
