Liverpool are at risk of losing a key veteran to a Spanish side this summer
As reported by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (h/t Liverpool.com), Liverpool are at risk of losing their 37-year-old veteran goalkeeper, Adrian to Spain this summer. It is being reported that Adrian has been in talks with La Liga side, Real Betis.
Previously, the 37-year-old has expressed that he would like to go back to Spain. However, no one expected things to go forward this summer. Just this past week, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Liverpool have submitted a new contract to Adrian.
Time is of the essence as the Spanish goalkeeper’s new deal is set to run out at the end of this month. Retaining Adrian would be key for the Reds, since their number 2 goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to leave Anfield this summer.
If Adrian ends up leaving as well it would all fall onto the shoulders of Alisson Becker. While the Brazilian is more than capable of staying in goal for an entire season, his recent fitness issues could present a problem to Arne Slot next season.
If Adrian ends up leaving the Reds would have to immediately shift their focus for the upcoming window. Liverpool will need to sign a new goalkeeper before anyone else. Real Betis are still just talking to the 37-year-old so the Reds have some time.
However, even if the team manages to keep Adrian it might not work in their favor. He’s clearly not at his best anymore, in fact, Adrian hasn’t even made an appearance for the Anfield squad since 2022.
