Liverpool icon says Arne Slot is on the same level as Jurgen Klopp
New Liverpool manager, Arne Slot has some big shoes to fill as he tries to continue the Reds’ winning ways following the departure of Jurgen Klopp. The German manager was at the helm for nine seasons and won everything that he could’ve during that time.
Dutch manager, Slot found a lot of success during his time at Feyenoord but coaching a Premier League side will be a completely different experience. However, Liverpool icon, Georginio Wijnaldum has faith in Slot. Here’s what he had to say about him while speaking to Dutch outlet AD. (h/t Liverpool.com)
“I can compare him to Klopp and Mourinho and then I say Slot is of the same level. Yes, he’s coming into a completely different world now, that’s just the case. But that doesn’t mean he can’t do what he did at Feyenoord there.”
Wijnaldum mentioned that he spent some time at Feyenoord observing Slot coaching his team during the beginning of the season. He says that what he witnessed during that time was of a very high level which gives him faith in the Dutch manager.
One would be inclined to agree with Wijnaldum. Just because Slot is coming into a different environment doesn’t mean he can’t achieve at Anfield what he did with Feyenoord. If you think about it even the Eredivisie side must’ve been a new world for Slot when he first arrived.
However, he made the most out of the situation and led them to the League and even made it to the UEFA Conference League finals during his first season at Rotterdam. Clearly, the Dutch manager is capable of adapting to his surroundings.
Slot has a lot riding on his shoulders and the endorsement from Wijnaldum will surely help him feel a bit easier. Now Wijnaldum might’ve compared him to Jurgen Klopp, but the fans won’t let anyone be compared to their beloved manager without earning their credentials first.
