Real Madrid set to sign Liverpool target Florian Wirtz in 2025
Real Madrid are set to sign Liverpool target Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in 2025, according to Liverpool Echo. The Whites have already reached a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with the Germany superstar for a transfer next year after he has emerged as one of the hottest properties in Bundesliga in recent months, Forbes reports.
Liverpool were among a host of other European giants closely plotting a move for Wirtz. The Reds would have needed to pay close to £127 million for Wirtz, but it would have nonetheless been an investment well justified.
He was perhaps the best player in Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen team which won the Bundesliga last season without suffering a single defeat. A near fairytale treble win was thwarted only by Atalanta, against whom Bayer lost for the very first time this season in the UEFA Europa League Final in Dublin some weeks ago.
It is fair to say that Wirtz’s decision to join Real Madrid over Liverpool is a major setback for the Reds, who will need to find an alternative to their target, who has been one of the world’s best young players of late. Yet, it is fair to say that there can be no questioning regarding the 21-year-old’s decision to prefer a move to Spain.
Real Madrid are building a superpower and have some of the leading footballing names on their roster, like Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior. Wirtz would be another stellar addition to a team that has been backed to conquer Europe for the better part of the next decade.

It remains to be seen which other players Liverpool shortlists given Wirtz’s effective rejection of their interest, but they do need to look at goal-scoring options sooner rather than later with an offensive rebuild now overdue.
