Three Liverpool Players who will be playing for their futures at Euro 2024

Liverpool boss Arne Slot will keep an eye on his players at Euro 2024 this summer

There will be as many as nine Liverpool players who will be playing for their futures at Euro 2024 in Germany this summer, as per BBC Sport.

Although not many of them have been linked with moves elsewhere, their performances in the continental competition could go a long way in determining their suitability to Arne Slot’s plans at Anfield.

Meanwhile, some players can also help broker better contracts by performing for their national teams this summer.

Here is a look at the three Liverpool players who need to be watched closely at the tournament:

RYAN GRAVENBERCH

Incidentally, one of the most important players that Slot will be keeping a close eye on during Euro 2024 is set to be Ryan Gravenberch, who Ronald Koeman has included in the Netherlands’ squad.

Gravenberch has not enjoyed the most successful campaign at Anfield and his performance with the Dutch side could go a long way in deciding whether or not he will have a crucial role in the team.

Having said that, Liverpool may even decide to sell him subject to conditions within a month, especially if Gravenberch has an impressive time in Germany and there emerges a market for him in the transfer window.

His role in the Netherlands team is also yet to be fully cut out, but for sure, the former Bayern Munich midfielder will have a number of Liverpool personnel monitoring him.

TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD

Trent Alexander-Arnold is about to enter the final year of his contract with Liverpool and the two parties are still to reach an agreement on the English international’s stay beyond June 2025.

As such, any more contract negotiations will have to wait until the end of England’s participation at Euro 2024 but Alexander-Arnold will be another player worth keeping tabs on for two distinct reasons.

One is obviously for his contract extension.

Though it may look imminent, the player can use a good tournament performance to his benefit in the contract negotiations whereas Real Madrid also might expedite interest in the right-back if he indeed performs well.

Second is for Alexander-Arnold’s positional confusion.

Gareth Southgate has used him in midfield in the past to make the most of Alexander-Arnold’s attacking capabilities and to mask his defensive frailties as well, by employing Kyle Walker as his full-back.

Arne Slot may be tempted by the latter tactical tweak due to a lack of creative quality in Liverpool’s midfield but that would require the club to sign a specialist right-back in the transfer window.

Diogo Jota will be representing Portugal at Euro 2024.

DIOGO JOTA

Diogo Jota has been one of the better Portugal players on the international stage and the Liverpool forward’s displays will once again determine how successful Cristiano Ronaldo & Co. are at Euro 2024 in Germany.

Moreover, it will go a long way in clarifying whether he does play a starring role in Arne Slot’s plans come the start of next season amid competition from Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz.

The former Wolverhampton star can play on the left wing and down the middle in the final third, both of which positions at Liverpool saw severe underperformance last season.

In fact, it will be crucial that Jota impresses as otherwise, Liverpool may feel the pressure to dip into the transfer market for an attacker’s signing this summer.
