Liverpool could bring in a replacement for Virgil van Dijk this summer
As reported by Football Insider, Liverpool are interested in bringing in Goncalo Inacio this summer, the team believes the 22-year-old defender could serve to be a long-term replacement for the Reds’ skipper and world-class defender, Virgil Van Dijk.
The report claims that Liverpool have ‘concrete interest’ in finalizing a deal for the Portuguese defender. However, Inacio won’t come cheap. It is estimated that any deal for the 22-year-old would run the team at least £40m.
The Reds are not in the habit of splurging insane amounts of money on players, so a £40m deal for Inacio seems well within the team’s range and budget for the summer. Inacio has made over 49 appearances for Sporting CP this season.
The 22-year-old has spent the majority of his time playing as a center-back and has somehow managed to rack up five goal contributions for the Portuguese side. Much like Liverpool skipper, Virgil van Dijk, Inacio is a natural leader.
Moreover, the 22-year-old is nigh impossible to beat for most attackers. If that ability of his can translate and bear fruit over in the Premier League the Reds will have found a solid piece for the future. With Van Dijk approaching 32 now would be the perfect time to bring in a replacement.
The Dutch defender has a few years left in the top flight. Anyone who plays under Van Dijk over the next few years will be able to extract and benefit from his wealth of experience.

Hopefully, the Reds can complete a deal for Inacio this summer. The sooner they get him, the more he’ll be able to learn from Van Dijk before he’s ready to depart from Anfield as well.
